As students prepared for Sports Day SHMS Leysin had the opportunity to take part in a friendly basketball match against our peers from Glion Institute of Higher Education. While the game provided valuable practice ahead of the upcoming competition, its impact extended far beyond the scoreboard.
Sport has a unique ability to bring people together, and this match served as an excellent example of how shared experiences can strengthen relationships between students from different campuses. Throughout the afternoon, participants demonstrated teamwork, communication, and mutual respect, qualities that are just as important in hospitality as they are in basketball.
The hospitality industry is built on connections. Success often depends on the ability to collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, build professional networks, and create meaningful relationships. Events such as this friendly match provide students with opportunities to develop these skills in a natural and engaging environment. Whether working together on the court, supporting teammates from the sidelines, or socializing after the game, students were able to expand their networks and establish connections that may continue throughout their future careers.
The match also highlighted the importance of healthy competition. Players challenged themselves to improve their performance while maintaining a positive and supportive atmosphere. This balance between competitiveness and camaraderie mirrors the hospitality industry, where professionals strive for excellence while working collaboratively to deliver exceptional guest experiences.

Most importantly, the event reinforced the strong sense of community shared across our schools. By coming together through sport, students not only prepared for Sports Day but also strengthened the relationships that make our learning environment so dynamic and rewarding.
We look forward to seeing these connections continue to grow, both on the court and throughout the hospitality industry in the years ahead.
