Wellness Week: More Than a Break: A Skill for Life

The first ever Wellness Week went off with a blast, and more importantly, it arrived exactly when it was needed most. Right after assessment week, instead of pushing straight ahead, students were given something rare: time to reset.

From mandala colouring and zen drawing to high-energy workouts, yoga sessions, and community moments like Game Night and Walk & Talk, the week created space to release stress, reconnect, and simply breathe. What stood out wasn’t just the variety of activities, but the way students showed up, for themselves and for each other.

In a fast-paced, high-pressure industry like hospitality (where over 70% of professionals report high stress levels) this isn’t just “wellness.” It’s preparation. Learning how to manage stress, maintain balance, and stay mentally resilient is a core professional skill, not an optional extra.

Wellness Week highlighted that small actions can have a big impact: moving your body to reset your energy, taking creative breaks to refocus your mind, or having a simple conversation to shift perspective. These habits build emotional intelligence, resilience, and self-awareness: qualities that define not only strong students, but strong future leaders.

More than anything, the week showed a shared commitment to a healthier, more supportive environment. Because long-term success doesn’t come from constant pressure, it comes from knowing how to recharge, adapt, and keep going sustainably.

And that’s a skill worth developing.
